Lubok yard
When exploring the unique villages of the Old Believers, it is worth
getting acquainted with lubok.
A lubok is a popular print, characterized by simple graphics and narratives derived from literature, religious stories, and popular tales. Lubok prints were used as decoration in houses and inns.
Lubok began in the 16th century.
Lubok began in the 16th century.
The Estonian
artist Pavel Varunin started making lubki in the late
1990s. The Lubok yard was born out of the initiative of Pavel Varunin to
introduce Old Believers' printing art and its history to both children
and adults.
In the yard, there is a wooden printing press made by
Pavel Varunin, which imitates 16th-century printing press machines.
In
addition, we have exhibitions and workshops.
